The internet providers available to Oakland residents depend on where they live. In general, residents have access to a few wired internet providers: AT&T Fiber, Xfinity, and Sonic. Let’s take a look at these providers’ coverage areas in Oakland and the type of broadband services they offer there.

First up is AT&T Fiber, which has 57.4% availability. Its coverage areas are scattered throughout downtown and West Oakland, but it has a strong presence in the Lower Bottoms, 7th Street Historic District, and South Prescott. AT&T Fiber also has territory in Ghost Town, though across the Grove Shafter Freeway in Pill Hill you won’t be able to find the service.

In comparison, Xfinity has 99.0% coverage in the city. Its cable service can be found in most neighborhoods except for the select areas in the downtown area. If you live north of the city center in neighborhoods like Westlake and Mosswood, you’re covered by Xfinity. It makes up for the areas that AT&T Fiber lacks, so if you still want fast internet but more coverage, Xfinity checks off the box.

Finally, Sonic has zero presence in the downtown area and instead places emphasis on its coverage in West Oakland and farther northeast in Piedmont. It also covers a decent portion of Cleveland Heights and Eastlake.
