Best Internet Providers in Denver, CO

The best internet service company in Denver is Quantum Fiber, which offers broadband internet with speeds of up to 8 Gbps on a fiber connection. That is very fast — more than fast enough for even the largest households and heaviest internet power-users. Quantum Fiber only serves about half of all Denver street addresses, so it isn’t available everywhere. If you can’t get Quantum in your area of Denver, you’ll have to consider other options.

The next-best choice after fiber is cable internet. In Denver, that means Xfinity, which covers 95.0% of the city, meaning you’ll definitely have it as an option. Xfinity offers internet plans that start at $30 and speeds of up to 1 Gbps on its fastest plans. Many customers like the better bundling options, like, phone, mobile, and TV that come with cable plans. Xfinity’s bundles start at $55.

There is one other provider in town that uses fiber in its network: Google’s Webpass home internet service. Webpass uses fiber internet for most of its infrastructure, but it connects individual homes to its network using wireless connections. This is similar to how 5G home internet services work. It’s a pretty effective way to leverage fiber’s ability to handle huge traffic. In shared parts of the network in Denver, fiber is there to handle the combined load, without having to build out fiber connections to every house in town. As cool as that is, we still give Quantum Fiber the edge as a true fiber provider and best overall internet provider in Denver.

Get the best deals on internet in Denver by looking for promotions from internet providers, especially for new customers. Providers like Quantum Fiber and Xfinity usually have promotions, such as discounts for military, first responders and low-income households. Currently, Quantum Fiber plans come with Price for Life, as well as free installation. Xfinity is also offering Apple TV+, Peacock Premium and Netflix Standard for just $15 per month with the Xfinity StreamSaver add-on. Make sure to check back often for new deals, as promotions can change more than once a month.

Fastest Internet Providers in Denver, CO

Quantum Fiber is the fastest provider in Denver, with speeds up to 8 Gbps.

Of all of the internet service companies in Denver, the fastest broadband provider is Quantum Fiber. Their top plan can reach speeds of up to 940 Mbps.

When considering speed, remember that not all types of broadband are created equal. Fiber-optic connections will give you “symmetrical” upload speeds that are just as fast as your download speeds, whereas cable and DSL providers will offer faster download speeds and slower upload speeds. If you are gaming or streaming, symmetrical speeds make a big difference. For example, Quantum Fiber can offer multiple-gigabit upload speeds to match its downloads, but Xfinity only has upload speeds reaching 35 Mbps. Fiber networks are also better suited to handling high-traffic hours without slowing down or throttling your connection.

For most households, 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps will feel fast, so most customers won’t have any complaints about Xfinity’s speeds. Past 1 Gbps, speed differences are harder to detect for most users. At high-end internet speeds, make sure that your Wi-Fi router is fast enough to handle your plan, or you’ll end up with much slower speeds than advertised.

Data caps are another factor that can affect your internet speed or trigger extra charges. Choosing a fiber plan means you don’t have to worry about caps, because fiber providers don’t have them. Xfinity users in Denver, however, should be aware that plans are capped at 1 TB unless you pay extra for unlimited data. Regular data allowances are usually more than enough for average users.

Internet Availability in Denver, CO

Like most big cities, Denver has one major cable internet provider available all over town (in Denver’s case, it’s Xfinity). But whether fiber is available in Denver isn’t quite as straightforward. Depending on where you live, powering your Wi-Fi up with a fiber connection may or may not be possible. It all depends on if you live in a place served by Quantum Fiber.

Quantum’s availability is its most limited downtown. In the central business district and Civic Center, availability varies from block to block. You may not have Quantum Fiber available up in Five Points or in RiNo, either.

Quantum Fiber does, however, have great coverage in other areas. In most parts of North Denver, you’ll be able to get a Quantum internet plan. Park Hill and Central Park are well-served by Quantum, as are most areas to the east and south of the Denver Zoo. You’ll likely be able to get Quantum Fiber down near Washington Park and the University of Denver, too.

Many areas of Denver also have access to DSL internet from CenturyLink. While it’s not our top recommendation, this service is widely available downtown. You’ll be a little less likely to see it in neighborhoods on the eastern side of Denver, however.
