Hartford residents can choose from 12 providers for an internet connection, with cable and fiber as available options. Xfinity’s cable service has 99.5% availability in the capital city. Hartford residents can also look for fiber from EarthLink and DSL from Frontier.

If you’re in the 59.1% of the city with EarthLink coverage, it’s an excellent choice. Otherwise, your alternative provider in the Insurance Capital of the World is Xfinity. From East Hartford to West Hartford and both sides of the Connecticut River, Xfinity covers a huge footprint of the city. Unfortunately, if you reside near the Asylum Avenue District or attend Trinity College, these areas are dead zones for the provider.

While DSL isn’t the best option for a wired internet connection, Frontier’s DSL service does feature a solid 4.3% availability. It has clusters of dead zones across the southern part of the city near neighboring towns Elmwood and Balf Quarry. However, other areas without Frontier’s coverage remain sporadic throughout the city, specifically near the University of Hartford. However, if you live in the northern part of East Hartford where Xfinity availability is lacking, Frontier stands out to provide coverage.

Another fiber provider in Hartford is GoNetspeed, but availability is dependent on the limited neighborhoods it services. It has a strong presence in West Hartford, with dead zones in the downtown area and around Hartford-Brainard Airport.
