Great Customer Service
ETC is the best provider I've dealt with in over 20 years in different parts of the US. The folks there are super friendly. It was easy to schedule, and the tech was competent, friendly, and quickly got us up and running. I'm pleased with the speed I have (150/10), but I do miss the Gigabit Fiber I used to have before I moved here. Here's hoping fiber comes sooner rather than later.
Best ISP I've ever dealt with
Service is rock-solid at every location we use them for, almost no downtime in 25 years between DSL and now cable broadband and fiber. Customer service is an example for the rest of the world: call center is local, the company is heavily involved in the community, and even during severe weather, field techs are super quick to respond.
Decent ISP, if you are in their cable range. Not if still stuck on ADSL.
Over the years, ETC has actually proven to be a half way decent ISP (although a bit on the expensive side.) They are generally reliable with probably only 48 hours of downtime total in the last 8 or so years. However, they are absolutely terrible with their consistency and speeds. If you are in one of their "very limited areas," (which actually is wider than you think,) you are stuck with a maximum of 6 Mbps down and 768 Kbps up. However, you are still stuck paying the same price as their much faster cable connections. They are constantly upgrading their cable standards (they recently doubled from a baseline 10 Mbps down 1Mbps up to 20/2) and adding higher speeds (such as their 100Mbps down 10Mbps up package.) According to their customer support though, they do not plan to upgrade their ADSL networks and want us to switch to cable (which they do not offer in our area.) Therefore, we are likely stuck paying their baseline $50 a month for a subpar ADSL connection while their cable customers benefit from yearly upgrades. It would not surprise me that in a decade they offered baseline gigabit cable while the ADSL people are still 6Mbps/768Kbps. Notice to ETC! If you are reading this, please upgrade your ADSL networks for people like us! VDSL2 should be standard at this point for those of us not in a neighborhood that has cable!
