GCI Communication Review

Constantly cutting out. I never do anything important on the internet at home because I know there's a 75% chance the internet will cut out at LEAST once an hour (normally for about ten minutes). I would rather have "slower" internet than internet that cuts out every 45 minutes. If there is ANY other provider in your area, please go with them!

Best in town

So the price of this internet service is kind of high. But for someone like myself that lived in the barracks with a roommate, we decided to get the biggest plan. We both paid $85 and our internet speed was 1 Gbps with the data set at 1TB I believe, it was well worth it when I started comparing to other providers in the lower 48. It was functional since we had a great modem and nighthawk router and used up all the bandwidth.

GCI Communications your only real choice.

GCI bought Alaska Communications in 2015. So even going through them, it's still GCI. The data caps are small, so if you stream video to watch the news or a movie, or listen to music, be prepared to buy more data on a regular basis which will greatly inflate your cable bill. Satellite isn't an option, as its too expensive, with too little data. The internet is fast, it eats through your data allotment very quickly if you're not VERY careful. If you do run through your data, you can leave it running at an extremely reduced rate. Don't bother doing anything beyond surfing websites slowly, or email. All in all, for a connected family of 4 in Fairbanks, Alaska. The Redline (fastest service available @ 500 Mbs / $179.99 month) with the 600 GB / Month data cap, we have to throttle back significantly and be very aware of what takes up how much data. A single HD movie can put a big dent in your data allotment. There isn't much else to do up here after you have seen all there is to see, which doesn't take long. I wish they would up the data cap for redline customers to 1 TB, at least that gives some real breathing room. Everyone that doesn't have a redline, best of luck.

The BroadbandNow team recommends consumers regularly check their internet's performance as it fluctuates regularly and can identify when you need service support or when your household's usage exceeds your current plan's capability

Note: This speed test can be used to test any internet provider, not just GCI Communication .

If your GCI Communication speed test result is lower than expected, try resetting your router or call GCI Communication customer service for additional assistance.
