The best home internet provider in Indianapolis is AT&T Fiber. Featuring speeds up to 5 Gbps, AT&T Fiber receives high customer reviews for its multiple fiber internet plan options with no contracts or data caps. AT&T also allows you to pair your fiber internet with AT&T wireless plans for additional savings, an option that many internet providers don’t have.
Metronet is another highly rated fiber internet provider in Indianapolis, offering speeds up to 5 Gbps. Customers choose Metronet for its excellent customer reviews, free eero router on all plans and lack of contracts and data caps. That said, Metronet does typically raise its rates after 12 months, and it does have a Technology Assure fee of $13.95 per month that you cannot avoid.
If neither fiber provider is available in your area, your next-best option is one of Indianapolis’ cable providers. Most U.S. cities have one monopolistic cable provider, but Indianapolis is split between two. You’ll most likely have only one available at your particular address though.

Metronet slightly outpaces AT&T Fiber in Indianapolis by offering internet speeds up to 5 Gbps. However, you really can’t go wrong with either of the city’s two fiber providers. Both offer lightning-fast fiber speeds and all the benefits of a fiber network, including symmetrical speeds (which means upload speeds are just as fast as download speeds) and more reliable performance at peak traffic hours. That said, we do think AT&T Fiber has a slight edge over Metronet when it comes to multi-gig plans, as these plans come with additional extenders and internet security through the AT&T All-Fi program.
For most households, 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps is plenty of speed. These speeds will allow you to stream Netflix and even live TV on multiple devices at once, and they’ll be able to handle online gaming and other bandwidth-intensive activities too. If you don’t need the multi-gig speeds of AT&T Fiber or Metronet in Indianapolis, then you’ll be fine with the sub-gigabit plans offered by Spectrum or Xfinity.

When it comes to internet service, Indianapolis is a city divided. Unlike most cities in the U.S., Indianapolis isn’t served by one cable giant — there are two!
You can figure out whether you’re in Spectrum territory or Xfinity territory based on how far from downtown you are. (Or you could just use the ZIP check tool on this page for a fast and accurate answer.) Spectrum runs the show in downtown Indianapolis and in a large swath around it, from I-465 in the east to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the West and from the University area in the South to the area around Meridian Hills in the north.
Xfinity’s footprint is just a photo negative of Spectrum’s: It looks like a map of Indianapolis with a big, jagged hole in the middle, where Spectrum’s share has been carved out. Neighborhoods all along the city line are in Xfinity territory, from Chapel Glen to Far Eastside and from Far Northside to South Perry.
(Why this weird two-provider footprint and inside-versus-outside orientation? History buffs may have already guessed: Spectrum’s footprint roughly follows the outline of the old city limits, prior to the “unigov” consolidation of the Indianapolis city and Marion County governments in 1970.)
Both of Indianapolis’ cable providers are worthy options, but be sure to check for fiber availability in your area. If you’re in the northeastern part of town, in or near Castleton, or way down in the south part of town in the areas of Southern Dunes and Glenns Valley, then you may be able to sign up for fiber plans from Metronet.
