Fastest Internet Providers in Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake City's fastest internet service provider is Quantum Fiber, which offers top speeds up to 8 Gbps.
Quantum Fiber is just one of a handful of very fast internet service providers in the Salt Lake area though. The city has a remarkable four fiber internet service providers: Quantum Fiber, Google Fiber, Utopia Fiber, and Beehive Broadband. Any of them will offer more than enough speed for your household.
Fiber customers get more out of their speeds because of symmetrical uploads and downloads. If you are gaming, streaming, or making video calls, upload speed can make a big difference to how fast your internet feels. For example, in Salt Lake City Google Fiber offers identical upload speeds up to 8 Gbps, whereas the biggest cable provider Xfinity only has upload speeds up to 2 Gbps. Cable is also more susceptible to traffic overload when the whole neighborhood is online.
One more thing to remember when it comes to speed is data caps. Most cable providers have them, but fiber companies don't. Data caps can throttle your speed or incur extra charges. If you decide on Xfinity you will be subject to data caps unless you pay extra for xFi Complete unlimited data, although Xfinity's data allowances are usually more than enough for most customers.

Internet Availability in Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake City is a very well-connected city by any standard. Broadband cable and fiber internet connections are both widely available in the city. Salt Lakers may even be able to choose among multiple fiber internet providers that serve their address — a rare luxury in internet connectivity.
Which fiber internet options are available to you will depend on where in Salt Lake City you live. (That isn't true of cable providers though. Xfinity covers 98.0% of the city, and its lack of competition makes it virtually certain to be your only cable option.)
The residential areas in the southeastern portions of Salt Lake City are particularly well served by fiber options. Down around Sugar House Park, you'll likely find Google Fiber, Utopia, and — particularly north of Route 80 — Quantum Fiber. East Bench is pretty well served, too, particularly by Google Fiber and Utopia.
Salt Lake City's Central Community is the best-served area of all. Many addresses in the area will have the option to sign up for Utopia, Google Fiber, or Quantum Fiber.
Near the University of Utah, residents of the Avenues can expect to be able to sign up for Google Fiber or Quantum Fiber (but not Utopia, which doesn't reach that part of the city). The same is true in Capitol Hill, and it's a similar story on the other side of Temple Square in Downtown Salt Lake City. That's particularly impressive, since many American cities do not have fiber internet infrastructure in their historic downtowns or business districts.
West of downtown, Google Fiber and Utopia are your best bets, followed by Quantum Fiber. Northwest Salt Lake neighborhoods like Rose Park generally have access to Quantum Fiber, Google Fiber, or both.
Salt Lake's Northwest Quadrant, past the airport, is home to Beehive Broadband's share of the city. Utopia and Quantum also cover that part of town, but Google Fiber does not.

Frequently Asked Questions About Internet in Salt Lake City, UT
Methodology
Our provider rankings rely on a rigorous, data-driven framework evaluating over 100 million rows of FCC data to bring transparency to local internet options. We track 8,000+ active plans from 2,000+ providers to cut through marketing jargon. We weigh technical factors against real-world experiences to match you with the best connections actually available at your address:
- Tested Technology: We utilize a fiber-first ranking system, prioritizing high-performance, structurally sound technologies (like fiber and cable) over slower legacy connections.
- Realistic Coverage: We filter out "ghost ISPs" with near-zero availability and actively flag providers that only cover a fraction of neighborhoods, ensuring you don't waste time on unavailable options.
- Transparent Pricing: We track base rates and downgrade providers that rely on hidden fees or sudden price hikes, exposing the true long-term cost beyond initial marketing promotions.
- Verified Speeds: We look beyond deceptive "up to" marketing claims to evaluate the actual download and upload speeds delivered, prioritizing the balanced, symmetrical performance necessary for seamless video calls and heavy streaming.
- User-Driven Personalization: We don't just look at the tech; we look at what people actually prefer. By analyzing millions of local connections, user reviews on downtime, and validated J.D. Power scores, we tailor our rankings to highlight the providers proven to satisfy users in your area.
