Home Internet Summary in Los Angeles, CA

AT&T Internet provides Los Angeles residents with diverse connection options, including IPBB, fiber, and 5G internet. With maximum download speeds up to 5 Gbps, AT&T caters to high-demand users like gamers and multi-user households. Starting at $55 per month, AT&T strikes a balance between cost and speed. Its 83.80% coverage across Los Angeles means a significant portion of the city can access its services.

Spectrum, covering 92.60% of Los Angeles, uses cable connections to offer maximum download speeds up to 1 Gbps. This makes Spectrum reliable for streaming and online learning. Starting at $49.99 per month, Spectrum offers substantial speeds at a reasonable price. Cable availability covers 45% of the area, and with other types like fiber and fixed wireless, residents have ample choices for effective internet solutions.

Best Internet Providers in Los Angeles, CA

The best home internet service in Los Angeles is AT&T Fiber. AT&T’s fiber-optic home internet offering offers lightning-fast speeds up to 5 Gbps (though you may not even need that much — AT&T Fiber’s other plans, which start at up to 300 Mbps, are worth considering as well). Internet-only plans with AT&T Fiber start at $55 per month and go up from there.

If fiber isn’t for you — or if AT&T Fiber isn’t available in your neighborhood of Los Angeles — you’ll want to consider cable internet next. Cable internet isn’t quite as state-of-the-art as fiber internet, but it’s still plenty fast enough for most households, and should be fairly reliable. In Los Angeles, cable internet means Spectrum, the cable giant that serves 92.6% of the city. Spectrum offers internet only plans from $50 per month up to $70 per month, and its bundles start at $90 per month. Those bundles allow you to combined Spectrum Internet® with other Spectrum products, like Spectrum TV®, Spectrum Voice, and Spectrum Mobile.

Some of these top Los Angeles providers are offering discount deals and special offers this month. AT&T will let its mobile customers get AT&T Fiber for 20% off, and also offers some customers a rebate in the form of a prepaid VISA rewards card. Spectrum’s bundle offers include a free mobile line for 12 months. Some restrictions apply to all of these offers, so be sure to read the fine print.

There are other internet options in Los Angeles, including AT&T Internet, which uses an IPBB connection (similar to DSL) instead of the fiber connection that AT&T Fiber uses. While AT&T Internet and some wireless internet options, like Starlink or T-Mobile 5G Home Internet, are decent options in some parts of the country, we generally don’t recommend them for residents of well-connected cities like Los Angeles. Since Los Angeles has high-speed fiber and cable internet options, we recommend that you focus on those.

Fastest Internet Providers in Los Angeles, CA

AT&T is the fastest provider in Los Angeles, with speeds up to 5 Gbps.

Los Angeles has a couple of good high-speed internet providers. The fastest of all is AT&T Internet, which offers a top speed of up to 1 Gbps.

If you want internet that feels “fast,” you’re probably going to want at least 250 Mbps for a small household and at least 300-500 Mbps for a larger one. It’s certainly possible to get by with less — much less, if you have a small household and aren’t a big user of bandwidth-hogging activities like livestreaming — but if you want that lightning-fast feeling, you’ll want to get up into these speed ranges. If you can get 1 Gbps, that’s even better; after that, though, you can expect increases in speed to get harder to notice. Only the biggest internet power users need more than 1 Gbps.

Internet Availability in Los Angeles, CA

All over Los Angeles, you’re going to find two major internet service companies: AT&T and Spectrum. But that doesn’t mean that your options will be exactly the same everywhere. AT&T has two networks in Los Angeles, and they are not created equal. Their “AT&T Internet” product runs on a network that makes heavy use of DSL. The one you want is “AT&T Fiber,” which uses a fully fiber-optic network.

So where can you get AT&T Fiber? AT&T Fiber serves 18.9% of Los Angeles, and the weakest part of its network is in the Downtown LA area and in the parts of South Los Angeles that are closest to downtown. Head up north to Dodger Stadium, and things get a lot better: Echo Park and Silver Lake are very well served by AT&T Fiber.

Other AT&T Fiber hotspots include Laurel Canyon and some (but not all!) of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. Mid-City and Crenshaw are good areas for AT&T Fiber, too, but Culver City and neighboring Santa Monica are relatively poorly served. Inglewood, as well as the parts of South Los Angeles that are closest to it, are better spots for AT&T Fiber.

As for cable internet, that one is simple: Spectrum covers 92.6% of Los Angeles. You’ll find it everywhere from the Hollywood Sign to LAX and in every place in between.
